The Cowichan Thunderbirds repeated as AAA B.C. Provincial Champions yesterday, Nov. 11, after beating Kelowna 1-0 in the finals in Surrey. Following last year’s win in Shawnigan Lake, the Thunderbirds have successfully defended their provincial title thanks to the leadership of coaches Perri Espeseth, Caitlin Evans and Jen Budding.

It was an all-island battle for fifth place as Mount Doug, doubled their entry ranking to finish in 5th after a dramatic shoot out against fellow islanders, the Francis Kelsey Breakers.

The fourth island team at the 16-team tournament was Oak Bay who lost in a shoot out to finish 10th place. Oak Bay qualified for the tournament after a wild card win over West Vancouver late last week.

Congratulations to all four teams for their performances this season and to all the dedicated island coaches for their time, energy and passion.
